Welcome to the website of the Embassy of Finland in Malaysia. The purpose of this site is to provide you with information about Finland and about our services.
Finland and Malaysia established diplomatic relations in 1972. Finland has had a resident ambassador in Kuala Lumpur since 1988. Our presence here is well established and it is reflected in many contacts and in excellent relations between our two countries. The fiel of responsibility of the Embassy of Finland in Kuala Lumpur covers also Brunei Darussalam.
As an element of the Foreign Service, the network Finnish Diplomatic Missions plays a central role in the development of a safe and predictable tomorrow for every Finnish citizen. Finnish Diplomatic Missions, established in various parts of the world, provide a wide range of services for Finns and the Finnish society.
The operation of Diplomatic Missions abroad is governed by public international law, established in the Vienna Conventions on Diplomatic and Consular Relations.
I have just started my term as ambassador in Kuala Lumpur at the beginning of September 2012, and I was particularly happy to have the honor of presenting my credentials to His Majesty the Yang di-Pertuan Agong already in September. Asia has been and remains my favorite area of assignment, having served as DCM in Beijing 1988 to 1990 and in Tokyo 1990 to 1992. My most recent ambassadorial posting was in Jakarta from 2000 to 2003. In various functions in the Foreign Ministry in Helsinki relations with Malaysia have been part of my duties. My spouse Susanne Silfverberg-Pullinen has had the opportunity of getting acquainted with Kuala Lumpur already in 2008, serving then a couple of months at the Embassy. We have both been eager and enthusiastic to learn of our assignment to KL. I look forward to my term in Malaysia and feel committed to developing Finnish-Malaysian relations as well as promoting the interests of Finland and Finnish citizens here.
