The PT Foundation is a community-based HIV/AIDS organization located in Chow Kit, an area of Kuala Lumpur home to several marginalized communities.
Over the past few years the Embassy of Finland has provided funding for the PT Foundation. In 2013 the Embassy is supporting the Foundation's capacity development, specifically through training that increases the knowledge and other capabilities of the organization. Capacity development ensures the PT Foundation has the people, resources and culture to deliver effective HIV prevention care and support, and to adopt a national leadership role.
Established in 1987 the PT Foundation is now the largest community-based HIV/AIDS organization in Malaysia. Over the past twenty years more than 100,000 people have benefitted directly from the work of the organization. PT Foundation provides information, preventative care, support services and education opportunities through 12 separate programmes across five vulnerable communities. The organization offers hope to marginalized people with no prospects.
Development policy is an important part of Finland’s foreign and security policy. Guidelines for the implementation of Finland’s development policy are set out in the Development Policy Programme. The support of local initiatives such as the PT Foundation and addressing HIV and AIDS as a health and social problem are integral parts of Finland's development policy.
